Boot Building Specs: Backstay [Reddit Wiki]
Backstay
A piece of leather stitched on to cover and strengthen the back seam of a boot; this is
purely an aesthetic choice. There should be no tangible difference in feeling between the
two as they both use the same internal heel counter which is what gives the wearer
support in the heel.
Single Piece Backstay

A single piece backstay is a sleeker profile option but cannot be combined with a pull loop.
- Available on 5” and 6” tall boots.
- Available on all lasts.
Two-Piece Backstay

A two-piece backstay is compatible with a pull loop, which is optional. It is a slightly bulkier option due to the additional layer of leather, but not cumbersome in any way.
- Available all boot heights.
- Available on all lasts.
