Over the years, we have found that customer satisfaction is greatly increased when we are able to guarantee the fit, feel, quality, and workmanship of ours boots. For this reason, the MTO option is only available to existing customers. There is nothing more disappointing for a new customer than to receive a highly customized boot that doesn't meet their quality, fit or feel expectation. We ask that all new customers explore that color options offered under our non-MTO boots. Once you love your first pair of Nicks, we welcome you to customize your second pair with us!

67- Classic High Arch/#4 Toe: Optimum arch support and toe box depth. Similar to the 55 but has a higher arch and taller toe box. This is the last that has made Nicks famous. A safety toe CANNOT be added to this last (see our safety series boots). Same last used in our legacy Ridgeline. 55 - Medium Arch/#3 Toe: Excellent for those wanting good arch support and the ankle stability which is comes from being able to dig the heels into the ground. A safety toe can be added to this last (see our safety series boots). Same last used in our Ranger, Robert, Forester, Steel/Comp Toe boots). FT - Moderate Arch/#3 Toe: Low heel and lower arch for flatter feet that don't need arch support and either don't like logger heels or the logger heel interferes with work equipment. A safety toe can be added to this last (see our safety series boots). Same last used in our Traveler, Falcon, Fire Trooper, and other moderate arch boots.

Measured from top of mid-sole. 10'' - Highly recommend. Most common height for Nicks work boots. 12'' - Adds a little extra support and protection. No significant advantage over 10''. 14'' - Uncommon. Hits right at the calf. 16'' - Really only for climbers. 14'' and 16'' required a hand-cut upper.

Black Raindance Smooth - 7-8oz-Work: Recommended. You just can't go wrong with our Black Smooth. We've been using it for over 50 years. Polishable, but requires work. Choose the "Roughout" for the lowers as the foot portion of the boot takes the beating. Black Raindance Roughout 7-8oz-Work: Same as the Black Smooth, just the "rough side" of the hide. Choose this for the lowers as the foot portion takes the beating. Chocolate Alpine Smooth 7-8oz-Work: Lighter in color compared to the Walnut. Tends to be a little "boardier" or stiff than the Black and Walnut. Choose the "Roughout" for the lowers as the foot portion of the boot takes the beating. Chocolate Alpine Roughout 7-8oz-Work: Same as the Chocolate Smooth, just the "rough side" of the hide. Choose the "Roughout" for the lowers as the foot portion of the boot takes the beating. Walnut Smooth 7-8oz-Work: This is our go-to for Brown. We've been using it for 50 years. Not the "prettiest" leather, but it's tough. Choose the "Roughout" for the lowers as the foot portion of the boot takes the beating. Walnut Roughout 7-8oz-Work: Same as the Walnut Smooth, just the "rough side" of the hide. Choose the "Roughout" for the lowers as the foot portion of the boot takes the beating. Tan Teton Roughout 7-8oz-Work: Our lighest color. Smooth not recommended as it looks like "baby-poop". Choose this for the entire boot. Can pass as Coyote Tan for for military applications.

Select "No" if you are not a climber. Select "Yes" only if you climb and experience excessive rubbing on trees or poles.

Select "yes" for work boots only if you really use your toe as a tool (i.e. resting or lifting items with your toe. Toe box comfort is reduces with toe caps as the leather doesn't stretch much. Keep in mind that our leather is nearly 2-3 times thicker than mass-produced work boots. Just because you are wearing through your non-Nicks boots, doesn't mean you will ours.

Soft Toe: Recommended. Maximizes Toe box comfort. Work leathers are plenty durable without any structure in the toe box. 9 out of 10 customers use a soft toe. Celastic Toe: Felt-like cloth infused with a hardening resin. Keeps the toe box from "sagging". Recommended for dressier boots. Some toe interference. Celastic Toe Thick: Not recommended. A thicker version. Toe box comfort not guaranteed. Not safety rated, but is "bump" resistant. Steel: Not ASTM rated. Only choose if your employer requires a safety toe. Conducts heat and cold, but is less intrusive in the toe box compared to composite. More "natural" toe profile. Toe box comfort no guaranteed. Composite: Not ASTM rated. Only choose if your employer requires safety toe. Conducts heat and cold less, but more intrusive in the toe box due to thickness. More "bulbous" toe profile. Because it is more bulbous, it tends to push the leather away from the ball the foot. Toe box comfort not guaranteed.

Select "yes" only if you are on spikes/gaffs most of the day. Lineman shanks are only for those who are climbing most of the day.

No - Recommended. Yes - Only needed for welders who experience slag and sparks falling onto the welt of the boot.

430-mini: Shallower tread than the V100 but with oil-resistance. Excellent for those who want grip and durablilty, but don't need the deep lugs of the V100. 269 Westerner: Mini rib pattern. Most common "dress" sole. Doesn't track in mud or dirt. Dainite: Originally designed in 1910 by Harboro Rubber Company in the UK. The famous studded pattern was designed so that the sole does not attract or store dirt. V-Bar: Features a traditional chevron pattern which provides grip but is easy to clean. Tends to wear about the same as the 430-mini. Leather: Looks great and is light-weight, but offers no grip. Classic appeal, but lacks function.

Black - Hides all the sins. Most common for black boots. Brown - Most common for brown boots. Natural - The most natural look. Default for light duty/dress casual boot. A inexpensive way to give a darker work boot some flare/color contrast. Default ink for Honey Vibram soles.

Recommended for those working on concrete/hard surfaced or who don't mind a little cushion. Boots are sized one width wider to accommodate the insole. If you are choosing your size, choose a size one width wider. This is an unstructured insole. Not recommended for safety toe boots as the insole may push the toes up into the structured toe box.
