Our boots fit pretty true to size and the Brannock Device. For those who like less toe box room, consider going down 1/2 size. Choose "build to the size I select" if you wear the same size in all footwear, your feet are fairly "normal", and you are willing to assume some risk if the boots don't fit perfectly. Choose "send me a try on pair of boots" if your feet are difficult to fit and you don't have success with off-the-shelf sizing. The Try on process can take 8 weeks before you get your try on pair. Nicks utilizes a alphabetical size scale. AA is the narrowest and FFFF is the widest. D is the most common width. E is the next most common width. Smooth over roughout: Our most common configuration as the smooth upper is protected by the pant leg and the foot portion takes the beating. Smooth: For those who like to keep their boots "polished" and don't need the abrasion resistance that the roughout provides. Roughout: For those working in very abrasive environment, where even the upper portion of the boot is exposed to abrasion. Note: Tan Teton available in roughout only.

Stitched-through Thick: better sole flexibility; sole-stitching all the way through the outsole to prevent delamination; lighter weight; 3/4'' thick sole stack. (Legacy models built this way: Ridgeline, Fire Trooper, Forester, "Contenders") Non-stitched-through Thicker: better insulation from heat, cold, and rocks; out-sole is only glued and screwed--not stitched through; boots may be more difficult to break-in; 1'' thick sole stack. More prone to delamination around the edges of the sole. This is how our traditional Hotshot and BuilderPro boots have been made.

Steel: Conducts heat and cold, but is less intrusive in the toe box compared to composite. More "natural" toe profile. Composite: Conducts heat and cold less, but more intrusive in the toe box due to thickness. More "bulbous" toe profile. Because it is more bulbous, it tends to push the leather away from the ball the foot.

V100 Lug: Recommended. Best sole for general purpose work. Tried-and-true compound has been in use by most of our boots for over 50 year. V100 Lug Honey: Same tread as the V100 Lug but much softer. Great for those standing on hard surfaces all day long as it provides a little "cushion". Wears 30% faster than the V100 Lug. V100 Lug RedX: Same as the V100 Lug but with "self extinguishing burn" and "oil resistant" properties. Default sole for all NFPA approved boots and ASTM (safety toe) certified boots.

Some parts of the leather hide are not optimal for boots. We make matching leather goods from these parts of the hide and solid brass hardware. Add a key clip, catch all, and drink sleeve to your boot order! Assembly required.

Please choose your normal pants waist size! Belts will be 4" larger than that size. All add-on belts will be 1.5" wide. (For the 1.75" wide belt, please look under the Accessories Category.)

Lead-times vary based on purchasing method. Most STOCK Configuration, 6-week ship boots are completed in 6 weeks. Most boots that are not stocked and need to be built take anywhere from 16-20 weeks based on fitting methods: build to my existing size, fit kit only, fit kit and try on process, and I am choosing my size.
