Very sturdy shoes

Have ordered a pair of these off the RTS page while waiting for my MTO pair to be made. Very happy with these so far!

Construction: sturdy, it's like a brick

Comfort: Still breaking in but so far so good! Less discomfort than expected especially in the footbed. A bit of pain from the gusset material tucked in around my ankle joint but hey that's to be expected with a pair of shoes like these. Currently waiting for a pair of deltaarch insoles for some extra arch support (I have high arches.)

Sizing: The length based on the Nicks sizing chart is right on spot. I should be a width C and these are E, with a thick pair of socks there's still some extra room but I'm confident that some deltaarch insoles will fix that. (Personal experience, for reference only)

Leather: No need to comment. Nicks is the best

Overall the only regret is that I wish these were a pair of boots. Though if you're looking for a pair of shoes then go ahead, they are absolutely fantastic quality. And the brass eyelets are a good bit louder than how they appear in the pictures - if you are looking for something more muted go with the antique hardware or gunmetal :)

Amazing

I am in awe of fit and how quick these boots broke in for me. The quality of the product exceeds my expectations. The price and wait time is no small thing but once you get the product and see the quality worth every penny.

Extremely impressed.

Nicks boots Comstock review,

While I was waiting for my order of Nicks Charley made to order boots I found a pair of Comstocks black moderate arch on their seconds sale.

I was measured by one of their boot fitters to be a 9E and the Comstocks are a 9EE.

This gave me the opportunity to get a better impression of my Charley order as I am in Canada and sending a pair of sizing boots is that much more complicated.

One thing that is different in these two boots is the last, the Charley boots have a higher arch support.

This is where the extra width of the Comstocks gave me the room to make a pair of harness leather insoles with an extra arch pad to mimic the different last design and confirm my choice to go with a higher arch design for my other boots.

You may know these boots come with the break in instruction that could involve a hundred hours.

The first two weeks I was a good lad and only wore them inside the house and fidgeted with my insoles.

Boy let me tell you these shoes are heavy duty but I never once had any foot pain.

It is my belief that Nicks is actually taking measuring your feet as a serious task and as a result the break in was a breeze.

I think that the people at Nicks shiver when they receive yet another email or phone call from me.

So many choices and so so many decisions make it is really hard to do the ordering from a distance and another country. I must say that they never gave me the impression that I was a difficult customer always graceful and courteous and helpful.

Did I tell you this is the first time ordering custom footwear ( I think the people at Nicks figured that out and cut me some slack).

I cannot recommend these boots enough and this company and I was kinda surprised there are no reviews on this model.

As mentioned before these are heavy shoes but surprisingly comfortable, the leather is beautiful and forms around your feet with ease. I suspect that the stitch down construction makes the boot that much more flexible in comparison to a boot with a Goodyear welt.

Initially I ordered my Charley boots with a leather sole, happily paying the extra to cut down the break in time.

After receiving the Comstocks with the Vibram VBar I changed my order yet again to go with the same VBar soles.

For me the only part that needed to be broken in was the upper, specifically under the lacing and even that went really easy and almost completely painless due to not wearing them too much initially.

In a recent Facebook post somebody replied that these are work boots and should not be considered for hipsters and the like. I beg to differ, anybody that is willing to do the extra for their feet and is willing to pay for great craftsmanship should treat themselves and not just for style but for good a old fashioned product, built the way should be.

If you are considering these boots, just go for it!

I’m convinced these will give many years of wear with the option to re-sole and eventually even re-built where do you still find that these days.
