Boot Sizing

In the realm of footwear, finding the perfect boot fit can sometimes feel like solving a puzzle. Sizing can vary not only between brands but also within different styles of the same brand. When it comes to Nicks Handmade Boots, understanding the sizing nuances becomes even more crucial. Nicks Handmade Boots are known to run a half size down compared to popular mass-produced boot brands like Thorogood, Ariat, Thursday Boots, and others.

  • Length
    Nicks boots will fit a bit large compared to mass-produced footwear. We recommend going a half-size down from your Brannock size. ie) If your Brannock size is a 12D, we would recommend a size 11.5D for your Nicks. 
  • Width
    In addition to length, consider the width of your feet when selecting boots. Most brands offer boots in standard D width (for Men) or B width (for Women). Those are the most common widths in Nicks; however, we offer widths A-FF in many of our lasts to achieve the perfect fit.
  • Lasts
    Sizing is not affected by the model last chosen. Here at Nicks, you will want to choose the same size regardless of last. Slip-on boots may experience heel slip where the heel lifts slightly during walking, often due to the absence of laces for adjustment. We recommend ordering the same size for lace-up and slip-on boots.
  • Women’s
    Nicks makes boots for everyone. Rather than making gender-specific boots, we offer our boots in a wide variety of lengths and widths so everyone can enjoy any style they would like. All of our boots are built with the same level of quality and craftsmanship so you can find the boot that works best for your needs, and we will build it to fit whoever you are.   The exception is our Becca boot, which some call a women’s boot but can be ordered in the same variety of lengths and widths for anyone to enjoy. The Becca offers a single stitch row on the outsole, allowing for a narrower footprint, and is made on the 5332 last for a more pointed toe. 
  • Laced vs Pull-On Boots
    We recommend the same size for both our laced and pull-on boot options. With all pull-on boots, some heel sleep can be expected.
