The Perfect Forestry Boot

I’m a forester in the hills of the east coast and have been wearing a 55 Nicks last for years. These, however, are the perfect boots. The weather shield leather is excellent at shedding water and the rubber outsole is much lighter weight and more weather resistant. These are the perfect all around forestry boot for me! I’m also a dozer op for our state agency so the NFPA rating is a plus.

Bought the Fire Troopers new for my Wildland Fire Season

Bought the Fire Troopers new for my Wildland Fire Season, within 16 days the sole has come undone on both boots and I’m hoping shoe glue alleviates this as I’m not able to go see a cobbler on my days off. I’ve been a JK Boots Customer for years, and I switched over to Nicks after hearing about the quality, so this was pretty disappointing.

Loving them so far

Loving them so far, break in has been semi-painful as expected but the fit and build quality blows a certain two letter boot manufacturer out of the water at a cheaper price for custom built boots.

Buying process affects product satisfaction

These boots work fine. For a flatlander like me, the Munson style last and lower rubber soles work great. The boot is breaking in rather quicker than I expected. I think they would be better if I could have gotten a narrower size. They were 5 weeks to arrive, but was told to get a different size was another 10 - 13 weeks. By then fire season will be pretty much winding down. So I am rolling along with ones that are too wide in the heels. Oh well. Besides them being a little sloppy feeling, there have been no hotspots. I added an insole, and my feet do not complain by the end of the day.

Couldn’t be better!

Lumpy heel counter letting down the rest of the quality.

They are everything I could've ever hoped for; however, they heel counter of the left boot has a significant lump as the result of the stacked leather of the back strap and heel cap, and it's made breaking them in particularly difficult on account of the bruising that this lump is causing on the back/ side of my heel. I'm worried I'll end up with a Haglunds deformity if I'm not careful.

Exceeded expectations

Imeasured my foot based on nicks size guide and they fit perfect. I had a pretty quick break in

This is a great alternative to a fully leather boot

This is a great alternative to a fully leather boot.Blends benefits from hikers and loggers. Not as hot in the boot as hikers, but also much easier to break in than traditional leather midsole loggers. The midsole/outsole has zero break in. It’s just the upper leather. HOWEVER the description is misleading that the rubber is comfortable and satisfactory for long shifts in my opinion. I’d say this boot requires an aftermarket insole to be just right

I have been wearing Nicks for over 20 years and work in Alaska as a wildland firefighter

I have been wearing Nicks for over 20 years and work in Alaska as a wildland firefighter. Conditions there typically ruin a pair of boots in a couple seasons due to the wet conditions - usually the leather insoles and midsoles are the fail points. Been thru a couple pairs of Nicks Alaska Tundra boots and Franks GroundPounder boots (after Nicks quit making the Alaska Tundra). Going to give the Fire Troopers a trial run this next fire season in AK, but they seem to have fixed the usual fail points by using rubber rather than leather. So far they are very comfortable and noticeably easier to break in than others.
