Update to my post - from Aug. 2023

Dear Nicks - thanks for creating the sweet bag (Everyday Carry Case) to store the boot care kit. Awesome! Nice to know sometimes your customer's suggestions are acted on - I ordered my Carry Case today! Again Thanks!

Need some swag to go with the kit

Hi- We need a sweet beg to hold the boot care kit - maybe something like a Men's Toiletry Beg... It just does not seem right to put the kit in a plastic Home Depot tool box...

Everything I needed in one kit, and then some

I got this kit so I could take care of my boots and so I would have an extra pair of laces in case I broke the ones that came with my boots. All three of the brushes work great and help get all the paper dust out of my rough out and the seams, I work in a bindery so I'm basically covered in paper dust all day long. The Nick's Grease is great as far as I can tell, it is their product recommended for their boots so go figure. I used it after my break-in and first wash and have since gotten water, mud and snow all over my boots and they haven't gotten soaked or even so much as wet so it really does waterproof leather well. The Smith's Leather Balm I actually haven't really used on my boots but it did a great job of softening my old and worn wallet. I also honestly use it on my hands as a moisturizer since it's just coca butter, beeswax, and almond oil. They should probably put a disclaimer that you shouldn't use it if you have a nut allergy on both this page and the page for it exclusively though. The Smith's rag is a generic blue rag, if you work in production you use these to clean up grease or in my case ink spray from the printing press that get stuck to everything in our building. It is a very nice blue rag, but a generic blue rag either way, and it has their logo on it I guess. I think a rough cotton rag is good for polishing too so it's good for that at least. I don't necessarily plan on using the Fiebing's Saddle Soap on this pair of boots since I have rough out but I do plan on getting some full smooth out boots in the future and using it on those so if I can I'll update this review later, but it's Fiebing's, it's the same stuff the 80 year old cobbler in my town and my grandpa have used for their whole lives, my grandpa buying and selling horse tack and saddles he always bought dirty ones people thought were trash, washed and polished them, and sold them for a profit and he never used another brand, and obviously if the 80 year old cobbler recommends it then I know it's worth using. Last thing is the laces, I've only had two pairs of laces from Nick's but all 4 laces are different thicknesses. I assume they cut a bunch and then just group them however but this really annoys me, no huge deal as I can go up to one of the Amish horse tack stores and get some in whatever color I want fresh cut and evenly sized for like $10 so I'll just keep the Nick's ones as spares. Either way this kit is the most conveniently priced way to get everything you need for your boots all at once. I was just gonna but laces, grease, and brushes separately but this was just way easier honestly and now I have saddle soap for when I get my casual pair of boots in the future.
