Our boots fit pretty true to size. Choose "build to the size I select" if you wear the same size in all footwear, your feet are fairly "normal", and you are willing to assume some risk if the boots don't fit perfectly. Choose "send me a fit kit and try on pair of boots" if your feet are difficult to fit and you don't have success with off-the-shelf sizing. The Try on process can take 6 weeks before you get your try on pair. Choose "just send me a fit kit" if your feet are fairly predictable to size, but you just want a little assurance from us.

If you are choosing your own size, Nicks will not issue a return or exchange. Our boots typically run true to the Brannock measuring device size, +/- 1/2 size. No returns or exchanges will be permitted Made-to-Order boots. A 15% restocking fee will apply for standard configuration boot returns.

Measured from the top of mid-sole. 6'' is recommended for heritage and casual boots as it hits just above the ankle bone. 8'' is the default for the Traveler boot. Choose 8'' if you are looking for a bit more lacing and ankle support.

Brown 5-6oz-Light-Duty: Our best brown option for light duty. Sourced from either Seidel in Milwaukee, WI, or Horween in Chicago, IL. Black 5-6oz-Light-Duty: Our best black option for light duty. Sourced from either Seidel in Milwaukee, WI, or Horween in Chicago, IL. Predator 5-6oz-Light-Duty: Brown with incredible orange pull-up. Patinas very well. For those who want a bit of a distressed brown look. Brown Waxed Flesh 5-6oz-Light-Duty: This leather is made almost exactly the same way as CHROMEXCEL®, but instead it is finished on the flesh (or suede side). This colors, waxes, seals, and lays the nap of the flesh flat. Durable and extremely stylish for those who like a distressed look. Natural Waxed Flesh 5-6oz-Light-Duty: This is the lighter version of the Waxed Flesh above. Tobacco Stampede 5-6oz-Light-Duty: This is the classic orange tone that made Moc-toe boots legendary in the midwest. Although it is prone to scuffing, it is durable, breaks in well, and is classy for light duty applications. Black Smooth - 7-8oz-Work: You just can't go wrong with our Black Smooth. We've been using it for over 50 years. Polishable, but requires work. Black Raindance Roughout 7-8oz-Work: Same as the Black Smooth, just the "rough side" of the hide. Choose this for the lowers as the foot portion takes the beating. Chocolate Smooth 7-8oz-Work: Lighter in color compared to the Walnut. Tends to be a little "boardier" or stiff than the Black and Walnut. Chocolate Roughout 7-8oz-Work: Same as the Chocolate Smooth, just the "rough side" of the hide. Choose the "Roughout" for the lowers as the foot portion of the boot takes the beating. Walnut Smooth 7-8oz-Work: This is our go-to for Brown. We've been using it for 50 years. Not the "prettiest" leather, but it's tough. Walnut Roughout 7-8oz-Work: Same as the Walnut Smooth, just the "rough side" of the hide. Choose the "Roughout" for the lowers as the foot portion of the boot takes the beating. Tan Teton Roughout 7-8oz-Work: Our lightest color. Smooth not recommended as it gets dirty easily. Choose this for the entire boot. Can pass as Coyote Tan for for military applications.

Soft Toe: Recommended. Maximizes Toe box comfort. Work leathers are plenty durable without any structure in the toe box. 9 out of 10 customers use a soft toe. Celastic Toe: Felt-like cloth infused with a hardening resin. Keeps the toe box from "sagging". Recommended for dressier boots. Some toe interference. Celastic Toe Thick: Not recommended. A thicker version. Toe box comfort not guaranteed. Not safety rated, but is "bump" resistant.

Select "yes" for work boots only if you really use your toe as a tool (i.e. resting or lifting items with your toe. Toe box comfort is reduces with toe caps as the leather doesn't stretch much. Keep in mind that our leather is nearly 2-3 times thicker than mass-produced work boots. Just because you are wearing through your non-Nicks boots, doesn't mean you will ours.

Yes - Recommended. A boot fitting boot should require some "pull". Pull-loop assist greatly in getting the boots on.

Hooks and eyes - Recommended. Classic boot configuration. Significantly increases lacing speed.

Brass - The most durable and classic option. Antique - Bronze in color. Brass base will shine through when bronze plating wears. Nickel - Brass base will shine through when nickel plating wears. Gun Metal - Blackish-Grey. Mat finish. Brass base will shin through when finish wears.

Cut Top - "Softest" feel on the ankle bone. Standard Top - Extra strip of reinforced leather called "top facing". Classic and sturdy. Standard for all our work boots. Rolled Top - Very classy accent. Comes standard on Roberts and Falcons.

V100 Lug: Recommended. Best sole for general purpose work. Tried-and-true compound has been in use by most of our boots for over 50 year. V100 Lug Honey: Same tread as the V100 Lug but much softer. Great for those standing on hard surfaces all day long as it provides a little "cushion". Wears 30% faster than the V100 Lug. V100 Lug RedX: Same as the V100 Lug but with "self extinguishing burn" and "oil resistant" properties. Default sole for all NFPA approved boots and ASTM (safety toe) certified boots.

Black - Hides all the sins. Most common for black boots. Brown - Most common for brown boots. Natural - The most natural look. Default for light duty/dress casual boot. A inexpensive way to give a darker work boot some flare/color contrast. Default ink for Honey Vibram soles.

Recommended for those working on concrete/hard surfaced or who don't mind a little cushion. Boots are sized one width wider to accommodate the insole. If you are choosing your size, choose a size one width wider. This is an unstructured insole. Not recommended for safety toe boots as the insole may push the toes up into the structured toe box.
